No matter how you celebrate the winter season, everyone loves getting a specialty-printed card! Join us to make your own set of 12 Risographed and letterpressed holiday cards.
For this class our team will have two non-denominational Risographed backgrounds (designed in advance) that students can choose from to personalize. We'll ask students for a single line of your own custom text before class begins to forge in our metal type foundry. (These lines of text will be used during class to learn how to letterpress print. Details will be sent to those who sign up.)
When students arrive we'll review how Risography works, and see how the card backgrounds are made. We'll then learn how to "lock up" your pre-made text in our Vandercook press to get prepped for letterpress printing. After reviewing press operation, each participant will learn to print their own custom text on top of their Riso backgrounds. We'll wrap up with trimming, creasing and folding each card down for beautiful, crisp final cards.
Students leave with a better understanding of two nifty print processes, plus:
- One dozen holiday cards with their own custom text.
- A set of 12 kraft envelopes to pair with them.
- Big-big love for old school printmaking... and that fuzzy holiday feeling!
This experience is run by The Bindery and bearbear in partnership, and guided by their two fearless leaders, Zach Lifton (Managing Director of The Bindery) and Diana Chu (Co-Owner of bearbear).
Masks are not required at the time of this posting, but are very welcome. This may change by the time of the class, and The Bindery reserves the right to require masks or other safety precautions at any time. Participants will be alerted to any changes prior to the workshop.
