This beginner's level course explores slipcase making in a custom way for each student: bring your own special book from home and learn to make a cozy, perfectly-sized case for it! Every student will be making their own open-ended, full bookboard slipcase from scratch using materials provided including a lovely decorative paper covering of their choosing. We'll be learning:
- The terminology and materials necessary to make a case (and do so again at home)!
- How to properly measure a book to get correct slipcase dimensions
- How to cut bookboard using appropriate tools
- How to construct and glue together a fully-lined and paper-covered slipcase
*Note that no bookbinding is happening in this class (we don't want the photo to confuse anyone)! This is just a case-making adventure: students will be bringing a book from home to work with. Some book sizing restrictions will apply: students will get notice about this in advance.
This is a course for beginners but does involve intermediate concepts and fine motor skills in a relatively fast-paced class environment: it is recommended for adult learners. Some background in book arts will be helpful but not necessary. All materials used for this class are professional-grade and included in the cost of admission. We hope you join us!
*Masks are not required at the time of this posting, but are very welcome. This may change by the time of the class, and The Bindery reserves the right to require masks or other safety precautions at any time. Participants will be alerted to any changes prior to the workshop.
*Due to the small nature of classes and the upfront materials costs, The Bindery has a no refunds or exchanges policy. If you cannot make it for some reason, please send a friend in your stead and let us know!
