Celebrating Juneteenth: a Poster Workshop in Collaboration with MKE Black

By The Bindery (other events)

Sunday, June 19 2022 1:00 PM 3:00 PM CST

Join us to celebrate Juneteenth, the national holiday commemorating the end of slavery in America. We've partnered up with MKE Black, Milwaukee's Black-owned business directory, to help spotlight the incredible work they're doing (and the businesses they support)!

Sliding scale pricing with all proceeds going to MKE Black.

In this workshop, The Bindery and bearbear will be helping you print posters using two specialty print techniques. First students will learn about Risography and how a poster background is created. Next we'll letterpress print the message that MKE Black provided: "Black UNITY creates Community."

We'll learn how a lettepress print is made using historic wood type, and each student will get a hands-on chance to make their own print. Students will end up with a poster of their own, and another that they pledge to display publicly or put up at a local business to help spread the word!  Each poster will contain information about MKE Black and a QR code that links to more info.

Support your local Black-owned businesses all while learning something new and creating something unique! See you there!

Masks are not required at the time of this posting, but are very welcome. This may change by the time of the class, and The Bindery reserves the right to require masks or other safety precautions at any time. Participants will be alerted to any changes prior to the workshop.
