Join us for an evening of book making using a traditional, Japanese-style of decorative binding. This popular stab-binding technique results in exterior stitching patterns that are visable (and beautiful) on the front and rear covers. Each student will learn two different stitches and produce two small books during the class.
We'll be using top grade materials [provided] and techniques to really give your books an extra special touch, including:
- A variety of fine, decorative papers to choose from for your covers.
- Traditional cloth-covered corners at the spine (kadogire)
- Lush interior pages (sutible for writing or illustration)
- Different color thread options for a custom touch.
Each student will be taught a standard 4-hole pattern for their first book and then a more complex variation on Kangxi Binding for their second. Students will leave with the knowledge to create more of these books on their own at home (or in our shared maker space)!
