Explore the wonderfully tactile world of mechanical typing during our hands-on typewriter night.
Curious about these quirky old machines and how they work? Join us to learn more with our on-site collection of clackers. We'll be practicing, playing, and then typing letters to loved ones the old-fashioned way!
Taught by Bindery owner [and typewriter-lover], Zach Lifton, this is a class for beginners (or those who need a refresher)! Ages 12 to infinity welcome.
We'll start by going over the basics of using a typewriter including loading the paper, setting the margins, line-spacing, and... how the heck to get to the next line down without a return button or enter key :)
We'll then take some time to practice and get warmed up with several activities before composing a letter to a loved one to send in the mail. We'll provide fine paper, plus a crisp envelope and stamp, and even mail your letter off for you!
Participants will leave with what they create during practice time, and are welcome to make a digital scan of their letter while on site before it gets sent off.
