ABOUT ABOUT

If you enjoy writing, you know that inspiration can ebb and flow. Let's banish that writer's block! Trying another writing tool can be a useful departure from the norm, and typewriters offer an excellent opportunity to compose differently. Join us for this evening of manual typing to experience how!

There’s something satisfying about watching words appear--pressed onto--the paper in front of you. Experience a different way of writing that is immediate and sensory... sans screens!  In this writing workshop we’ll lean into these characteristics to tap into our creativity. No former experience of typewriters necessary, though please note that this is a class geared towards adult learners.

Instructor, Lisa Floading will lead students through a series of writing activities on vintage manual typewriters, for both individual and collaborative exploration--with time for sharing for those that wish. All typewriters will be provided so that every attendee will have a machine to use; however, if attendees wish to bring their own machine they are more than welcome to do so.

Students will leave with their own typed up creations, inspiration for future work, and a foundational knowlege of typewriting to go out and explore on a machine of their own! (Or by using one of The Bindery's collection by joining as a member!)

Your instructor:

Lisa Floading is an avid collector of typewriters who enjoys sharing her passion for these amazing machines with others. As a veteran high school English teacher, Lisa discovered how creative writing students enjoy drafting on them as a break from the screen. She does minor repairs and maintenance on typewriters in her spare time and can be found 'round town teaching others.
